Rational Software Conference 2009: Why Are Customers Talking SharePoint?
Just back from a week at Rational Software Conference in Orlando. It was remarkable meeting so many IBM customers that want to integrate Microsoft SharePoint into their Jazz-based software delivery platform.
Here's why:
- Their document libraries are a mess. Many software delivery teams have come to rely on ClearCase for document management, despite the fact that ClearCase is designed for source code versioning. Or worse, they store documents in their email boxes.
- They need to collaborate with business stakeholders, including corporate lawyers, product marketers, and client teams. However, ClearCase is used by development teams only, and email is a tedious way to seek out project approvals.
- While SharePoint is being deployed in the enterprise, software team hasn’t implemented it for their own use. This is because locating, accessing, and publishing documents on team sites takes several steps, all of which are disconnected from the current work context.
All of these are reasons why more than 60 customers joined Mainsoft on Wednesday at the session, “Driving Business Value Using IBM Rational Team Concert and Microsoft SharePoint and Lotus Quickr Sites.” I’ve included the presentation slides for your perusal.
Yaacov Cohen, CEO of Mainsoft, and Dekel Cohen, a Mainsoft product manager, gave an overview of Mainsoft Document Collaboration for Rational Jazz, software that provides per-project document linkages to Microsoft SharePoint and Lotus Quickr libraries. It also allows project teams to define and enforce the document review process as part of Rational Team Concert's process workflow – improving the transparency of software deliveries, as well as automating and enforcing project governance.
Dekel also previewed SharePoint social networking features that will be included in our 2.0 release, including integrated access to My Sites, blogs, wikis, and People Search. Bernie Coyne, Marketing Manager for Rational Team Concert, wrapped up the session by previewing RTC 2.0.
