One way to cut expenses: Notes 7 & WSS co-existence.
We just presented our coexistence strategy in two Lotusphere Comes To You events in Munich and Dusseldorf with our German partner: TimeToAct. These were two excellent, well organized events, very well attended by large Lotus customers. We had two great sessions and some in-depth discussions with a number of customers.
Here is one interesting strategy being implemented by a large Notes enterprise: standardize on Windows SharePoint Services as a project management, team collaboration platform. They had planned to roll-out MOSS but revised the initial plan to reduce costs and found that WSS could be rolled-out at an enterprise level. They are sticking for now with their Notes 7 infrastructure and are planning to integrate Notes 7 and WSS with the SharePoint Integrator for Lotus Notes.
Of course you lose the high-end features of MOSS such as Business Intelligence or Forms-driven Business Processes so you need to carefully plan such a move. A good comparaison between WSS and MOSS is here.
