Bringing Social Networking to Jazz
Enterprise social networking features will be added to the Rational Team Concert (RTC) development environment in our next release of Document Collaboration for Rational Jazz, as mentioned on SPTechBlog. With the announced version 2.0 of Document Collaboration, the RTC client will be capable of:
- Accessing SharePoint My Sites, with links to blogs and wikis
- Viewing SharePoint Personal Profiles
- Using SharePoint People Search
These features will be added on top of the existing integration of SharePoint document libraries and workflows with the Jazz development process.
Here's a small screencast to explain the new social networking features:
From RTC's Team Artifacts view you will be able to see your colleagues' SharePoint My Sites ("Ron's Site" in the screenshot to the right) and open those personal sites listing skills and interests of your co-workers . You can also automatically populate RTC's Team Artifacts view with your project and team members' "My Sites" from SharePoint.
Blogs and wikis linked from My Sites are also listed in the Team Artifacts view, and they can be opened directly from RTC.
Information from the SharePoint Personal Profile is added to the user-sensitive tooltip listing the Jazz user information. As you can see in the screenshot to the left, skills and responsibilities from SharePoint has been integrated with the Jazz information, along with a link to open the full profile page on SharePoint.
You will also be able to use SharePoint's People Search from RTC's standard Search dialog, as in the screenshot to the right.
Document Collaboration for Rational Jazz version 2.0 is scheduled for release in Q4, 2009. If you will be visiting the IBM Rational Software Conference 2009 in Orlando, FL next week, you have the opportunity to get an early glimpse of these features. We will be presenting the software in our Mainsoft booth, Pedestal B in the Ready for Rational Pavillion. Also, on June 3 at 10 AM, IBM’s Bernie Coyne, marketing manager for Rational Team Concert, and Yaacov Cohen, Mainsoft CEO, will present the session “Driving Business Value Using IBM Rational Team Concert with Microsoft SharePoint and Lotus Quickr.”
